What Did IFTT do to Tumblr?

Tumblr has always been one of my favorite blogging platforms. Recently it seems like they have tried to take action on people that were using the service for nothing other than search engine optimization. A few months ago a link from Tumblr was treated as  a followed Direct link, but they now have switched it to a redirect so it won’t past link juice. I find that quite funny for a network that wouldn’t exist had it not been for animated gif Women doing things going for far too fast for prime time or this blog.

It seems, like WordPress created the necessity (and abuse) of the “noindex” tag. NoFollow is a metric I believe Google only pays partial attention to. At the end of the day, only tears site is a link to your site. If you look inside your webmaster search console you will see all the sites that are linking you regardless of whether the links are followed are know followed.

Do you think that Google is seriously going to completely devalue your link just because you put in six digits of code? It may look at tag but as merely a suggestion. As links from YouTube and Wikipedia and other high-value Internet properties even with a “noindex” tag still continue to be the superior link.
